Friday's weather was ideal for football as the 0-2 Bears visited the 0-2 Comets.

Comets open game with a few first downs before the Bears force them to punt. A decent opening drive by the Bears ended when Lamb connected from 25 yds out to give the Bears an early 3-0 lead. A deep kick and a key qb sack forced the Comets to concede two pts rather than kick from deep in their endzone. Score 5-0 Wynyard. The Comets bring their fans to life following an impressive 70 yd pass and run for the major. The convert was good giving the home team their first lead 7-5. Defences settled in until late in the second when Lamb barrelled over from the 5. The convert was pushed wide and the Bears took the 11-7 lead into halftime.

The Comets came out strong in the third. A deep kickoff and a two and out gave them good field position. They went back to the air and once again electrified their crowd with a 50 yd pass and run. The convert was good giving the Comets 14-11 lead. The Bears put together a drive midway through the third and capped it off when Hunter dove in from the three. The convert was good and the Bears take the lead 18-11. They had a chance to increase the lead in early fourth but 25 yd field goal attempt was pushed wide. Defences bent but did not break until last minute of fourth when Bears able to sustain drive ending with Lamb once again barrelling over from the five. The convert was good and one would think game over 25-14. The Comets however showed otherwise as they return kick 70 yds for Td only to have hearts broken as a clip denied the Comets a chance to go after a short kick.

The fifth quarter allowed the younger players an opportunity to develop and was evenly matched. Hopefully both teams will continue to improve over the last half of the year. This was a very entertaining game between two evenly matched opponents.

Thank you bus driver Arnold for giving up your bday celebrations to get us to and from the game safely.

I have heard that the "5th" quarter is illegal. Football is a high school sport meaning grades 9-12 are eligable to play and teams who are playing a game with grade 8's afterwards are violating SHSAA rules. Any other thoughts are comments?

If I'm correct the "5th quarter" is played by the younger players ON THE TEAM. That means that it is usually grade 9 players and some grade 10 players who are not quite ready to play in the game. If I'm wrong please correct me.
